Microfinance (P2P Lending)

In order to create a self-sustainable lifestyle for the villagers, we teach the people of the village to sell local custom-made items for a maximum profit. Because each of us has received such an amazing education, we hope to give back by furthering the education in business of these impoverished people. Our main goal is to promote and sell the local crafts made by village women to make a profit and give back the money to these impoverished villagers.

Our first edition has just been released! This magazine is a compilation of the thoughts and ideas of students who went on the P2P Global Philanthropy trip. Even though this magazine is in its earliest stages, we have received much support from the community.

One of our foremost concerns is the problem of drought in rural villages.  The ground is dry and cracked, making crop harvesting and planting extremely difficult.  We hope to build wells to tor water during rainfalls.

For Children with Special Needs

Currently, we are trying to partner with a school that promotes a new form of learning for children with special needs. As we believe that education for children is, in all capacities, the most important aspect, we hope to bring this program into existence soon!

Relief of Children with Congenital Heart Defects

A part of our proceeds will go toward funding heart surgeries for children with congenital heart defects. The kids we help are unable to play like normal kids because a defect in the heart affects oxygen supply.  Thus, in addition to donating proceeds, our members visit these children to cheer them up.

Timely Rain is an organization of like-minded young people from locations across California, US and Beijing., China We firmly believe in the benefits of microfinance in developing regions. Our work includes the following:

Summer/Winter Trips

Students from Timely Rain visit new farmers in order to fund loans to them to start their own business. These students learn the basics of interviewing and judging the trustworthiness and feasibility of different business plans presented by the villagers. In addition, some students will re-visit the farmers who were loaned money from previous years in order to check up on the status of their lives as affected by the loans.

Timely Rain Scholarship Plan

We have started a scholarship initiative in which we review the academic performance of several middle school to high school children from families who cannot afford to send them to school because of financial reasons. Most of the girls in the village do not have an education beyond middle school, leading to a cycle of poverty that they cannot break out of. Because of the traditional beliefs of the village, money is spent on the sons in each family, whose education is valued over that of the girls. Because we want to create as many opportunities as possible for these children, though, we will make special allowances for boys who show extraordinary amounts of progress and potential. Thus, we want to provide the resources necessary for these children to go to school and create opportunities so that they can break out of poverty.
